Software Engineer within eHealth
Join us to build scalable backend systems for an AI assistant that frees clinicians’ time and transforms healthcare. Create secure, high‑impact tech that truly matters
Cambio is one of the Nordics' leading suppliers in eHealth with a comprehensive offering for the entire health and care chain. Our eHealth solutions support health care professionals in their daily work and offer patients safer and more easily accessible care. We are proud to be an important part of Swedish healthcare. We are growing continuously and now have about 1000 employees in several countries.
The position
As a Software Engineer with a backend focus, you will be part of a highly skilled, ambitious tech team building an AI-driven system that operates at the core of clinical workflows. Cambio Ambient Scribe is an ambient AI assistant that listens to and documents patient–clinician conversations in real time. By reducing administrative burden and saving up to two hours per day for healthcare professionals, the product helps clinicians focus on what truly matters: the patient. Read more here.
In this role, you will take clear ownership of backend design, implementation, and scalability, ensuring that the system is secure, performant, and ready to scale from a thousand to tens of thousands of users. You will work closely with other engineers with different focus areas, such as frontend/UX, AI, and full-stack.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys writing production-quality code, designing robust systems, and taking responsibility for technical decisions in a complex and meaningful domain.
Some of the things you’ll do
Design, build, and evolve backend services for a mission-critical healthcare AI product.
Develop and maintain scalable APIs and services, primarily using Python and modern backend frameworks.
Design data models and storage solutions that ensure performance, reliability, and long-term scalability.
Build systems with security, privacy, and compliance as first-class concerns.
Work with container-based architectures and contribute to CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence.
Collaborate closely with AI, DevOps, and product teams to deliver a high-quality, end-to-end solution.
Take ownership of technical decisions and help shape the backend architecture as the product and platform evolve.
We offer
At Cambio, you don’t just build software – you build technology that directly improves healthcare.
You’ll get the opportunity to:
Work on a cutting-edge AI product that is deeply integrated into COSMIC, Sweden’s most widely used electronic health record system.
Be part of a small, highly competent team with strong ownership, short decision paths, and a startup mindset within a stable company.
Influence architecture and technical direction in a rapidly scaling product.
Grow with the role – both technically and in responsibility – while working on problems that truly matter to society.
About you
We believe you are a Senior Software Engineer with a backend focus who is comfortable taking responsibility for complex systems and enjoys solving hard problems. You have a calm confidence in your technical skills, but you’re also curious, humble, and continuously learning.
Rather than checking every single box, what matters most is that you have a strong foundation and the ability to design and scale backend systems in production. You enjoy writing code, care deeply about quality, and understand the importance of security and reliability in healthcare systems.
We see that you tick some of the following boxes:
Strong backend development experience, with Python as a core language.
Around 5+ years of professional experience in backend engineering or similar roles.
Experience designing and scaling backend systems in production environments.
You are comfortable using modern AI tools as a natural part of your development workflow.
Solid understanding of security principles in backend and cloud-based systems.
Experience working with containers (Docker) and modern deployment pipelines (CI/CD).
Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis) and data modeling for scale.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Ability to take ownership, communicate technical decisions, and work collaboratively in a team.
Bonus qualifications
Experience with microservice architectures.
Experience with observability, monitoring, and performance optimization.
Previous work in healthcare, healthtech, or other regulated environments.
Place of employment: Umeå or Stockholm
Scope: Full-time, hybrid work model (three days per week in-office)
Form of employment: Permanent employment, 6 months trial period
Additional Information: The role involves access to sensitive information, therefore a background check will be conducted on the final candidate.
